Active Server Pages (ASP) s Microsoft’s scripting technology for displaying dynamic web pages, ASP programmes mostly use VBScript, JScript.PHP is the open source alternative to ASP that runs on multiple operating systems, incuding Linux, Windows solaris and other OS.
Comparing their speeds PHP is relatively much more faster and stable than ASP.PHP installtions are definetly cheaper to install, PHP runs great on Linux which is free, on the other hand ASP runs on the IIS Server (Internet Information Server) which need’s Windows N.T/2000/2003 Servers.

When you set up your web page there are more things to consider than the banners, font, pictures, forums, and colors you employ. There is one most important aspect of your web page is your domain name. Domain is the first thing what people will see in order to get your site. Registering a domain name is very easy you can do it in your spare time all you need to do is search the web for your favorite domain names and ones that apply to your web pages. You will be able to search for .com, .net, .org and a variety of others depending on what you are looking for. If the domain you want to buy is available in all of the .com, .net, .org and the like then it will be best if you buy all of the available web site.
When registering your domain name or domains, you should also check to see if there are other similar domain names available or the same name with a different ending such as com, .net, .org, or the like. The more domains you own that are similar to your own the more hits you will get on your site. So, if you can afford to, buy all the domain names possible. You can have the other domain names directed to your web page, so it really is the best option to get more hits than you would with just one domain name.

A list of email addresses to which messages are sent. You can subscribe to a mailing lists typically by sending an email to the contact address with the following in the body of the message: the word subscribe, the name of the list, and your email address. E-mail is, and has always been, the greatest application of the Internet. There are number of e-mails sent daily than the number of phone calls. When one thinks of e-mail it is usually regarded as a person-to-person communication activity. Mailing lists, though, encourage a greater and more varied amount of e-mail activity, anything from two-way communication to full interactive discussions open to the public.
You can create your mailing list using control panel as cPanel or Plesk.
Generically speaking mailing lists can be classified in two ways: a ‘one-way’, and a ‘two-way’ mailing list. A one-way mailing list either accepts or sends information, the user only interacting with the list server; and a two-way list creates interaction.

Managed Hosting provides :
Bandwidth : Managed hosting providers can often supply bandwidth more cheaply than you could yourself. By hosting many clients, they achieve economies of scale which could never be achieved by a solo operator.
Backup power : An UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is an essential for any serious web-applications. If the power goes down, mission-critical web operations should not go down with it. A managed host can provide this – again, usually at lower costs than you could yourself.
Security : Servers need to be constantly monitored to prevent unauthorized access, denial of service attacks, the spread of viruses, etc. Installing the necessary firewalls and monitoring equipment can be a costly exercise, which, again, your managed host can help prevent.
Staff : Hiring the systems administrators with the expertise to keep your servers and networks up and running can be costly – managed hosts can provide all of this for a set monthly fee.
Redundancy : You will need back up capacity in case there is a failure on your server. The best way to achieve this reliability is to use redundant servers. Then, if one server fails, another can take over. (This use of multiple servers to ensure reliability is often referred to as “clustering†in order to achieve “load balancingâ€.) Again, your hosting provider can often provide this redundancy at a lower cost than you could yourself.
Data Backup : If there is a systems, network or power failure, the last thing you want is to lose your data. You will need equipment in place for regular, daily back up of your data. A managed host can provide this.

Unlimited Space and Bandwidth vs Unmetered Space and Bandwidth
Unlimited : no limit
Unmetered : not measured or counted but has a certain limit
Unlimited is not possible in any aspect of life and there is nothing without limits. Unmetered bandwidth is the only thing that won’t be deceptive advertising to a prospective client. Unmetered, within the direct definition is possible, as it’s certainly possible for a host not to measure how much bandwidth you’ve used. Unmetered bandwidth is possible only for the dedicated servers and on shared account it is as dishonest as unlimited. Unlimited is not possible but unmetered is possible b’coz bandwidth is a commodity that someone needs to pay for eventually. The term unlimited is only a marketing strategy. Go through the TOS of companies offering unlimited space or bandwidth and you will find some restrictions after all nothing in the world is unlimited.

As more & more firms practice relationship marketing & develop databases of customer information, privacy issues are emerging as an important topic. Consumers & public interest groups are scrutinizing & sometimes criticizing the privacy policies of firms. Concerns are also being raised about potential theft of online credit cards information or other potentially sensitive or confidential financial information. Others maintain that the online privacy fears are unfounded & that security issues are every bit as much a concern in the offline world.

FTP is the standard mechanism provided by the internet for copying a file from one host to another. Transferring files from one computer to another is one of the most common tasks expected from a networking or internetworking environment.
Although transferring files from one system to another seems simple & straight forward, some problems must be dealt with first. For example, two systems may have different ways to represent text & data. Two systems may have different directory structures. All these problems have been solved by FTP in a very simple & elegant approach.
