Getting listed in directories is as important as good search engine ranking, this is because these directories are moderated by real living human beings who look at the content of web sites that are submitted and place them in the relevant categories. Also search engines usually spider directory listings , so this is a good way of getting a site indexed on the search engines. This helps to reduce the amount of spam found on the normal search engines. You should try and get your site listed at Yahoo and Looksmart.
There are different strategies for directory submission :
1. Research each directory and the directory category individually.
2. Determine the best description of your website for each category.
3. Make sure your unique selling proposition is also in your directory description.
4. Whenever possible use the paid/expedited submission programs.
5. Check your site statistics software regularly.

There are plenty of good directories on web, you need to get listed in high PR directories and especially to your niche categories.

Directory submission is a great way to rank high in search engines. But while directory submission it is important to consider PR of that directory, try to submit your site in high or with same PR directory.
